About Frank Sanders

Provando e riprovando--Verify one and disprove the other. Whether I’m prospecting for dinosaur bones (or quarrying them) in the Utah desert, measuring radio signals for the U.S. government, designing jewelry, keeping bees, traveling somewhere for pleasure or an assignment, or hurling myself out of an airplane, I try to be thoughtful about whatever I’m doing. Not that I’m averse to just hanging out with my friends while having a couple of beers.

I’m a scientist, an engineer, and maybe a bit of an artist (on a good day). Most weekdays I work for the U.S. government in Boulder, CO, where I run the Telecommunications Theory Division of the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences (http://www.its.bldrdoc.gov).

In my other time (weekends, holidays, evenings, annual leave time, etc.) I work on all sorts of interesting projects that are profiled on this site’s pages, including as a Research Associate at the Denver Museum of Natural History (now Nature and Science). Plus I spend time with my friends and take care of my Little Buddy, my cat Kiska, a stray who came in from the cold to live with me.

I am equally at home in primitive back-country locations, airplane cockpits, formal dinners and high-level  government and industry meetings in Washington, DC. Sometimes I transition rather abruptly between environments: I’ll spend the first two weeks of September in the worst imaginable heat and dust of a dinosaur quarry in the desert northwest of Moab, UT, and then spend the next two weeks in meetings of the International Telecommunications Union, the international governing body for radio systems, in Geneva Switzerland.

I am obsessed (in a good way, I hope) by the world and all that is in it. For example, I love to see beautiful scenery, and I love it even more when I have an idea of the epochal forces, events, and time scales that went into making it. I hope that I can show some appreciation for the terrific life that I’ve had by sharing selected aspects of it with others through the medium of photography. On this web site, you will gain a glimpse of my existence through my photographs.

I’m not religious,  but I think that, if a deity existed, that entity would appreciate it if we not only took the time to see the beauty of the face of his or her creation, but also would be gratified if we took the time and effort to understand more about how it was done.

I invite you, the reader, to share this world, my world really, and my hopeful outlook for it through the photographs and descriptive texts on the pages of this site. Go to  the link for Using My Photos on this web site for instructions on how to obtain high-resolution versions of any of my photos. I don’t charge money for the use of my pictures, but I do require a photo credit for their use.

FYI, I have a brother, Chris and a sister, Dorothy; my brother has a web site that you might enjoy visiting at: http://chrissandersart.com. (His site became operational as of July 25, 2007.)

Chris used to be an animation director at Disney. He now directs at Dreamworks. Among his film credits are The Rescuers Down Under, Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Lilo and Stitch. He wrote the story for Lilo and Stitch, co-directed it, and is the voice of Stitch in both the movie and the Saturday spin-offs.
